1.1 billion girls are in danger of being left out of global progress, according to UNICEF.

Almost 750 million women and girls alive today were married before their 18th birthday.

Universal secondary education could virtually eliminate child marriage. It could reduce early childbearing (before age 18) by 75%.

Girls who complete a high school level education are better equipped for a healthy, prosperous adulthood. They have smaller families. Their children are less at risk of illness and death. And, they and their children both are more likely to succeed.

If every girl in the world received 12 years of quality education, their lifetime earnings could double. Their earnings would go from $15 trillion to $30 trillion globally. 

In low-income countries, fewer than two-thirds of girls complete primary school, and only 1 in 3 completes secondary school. Nearly nine out of 10 girls today live in low- and middle-income countries.

Education is good for girls. And communities. And countries. Each additional year of education translates into 18-35% higher GDP per capita.

The more girls we educate, the more change-makers we create. Women who are leaders often begin their path in adolescence.
